Student safety is always a top priority, therefore we will begin implementation of the OpenGate® Weapons Detection Systems. Starting tomorrow, May 5th, our students will pass through the Opengate System as they enter the school building.
These advanced walk-through systems rapidly scan for dangerous and prohibited items as students and visitors enter, providing a quick and unobtrusive screening process that supports a safe learning environment. These devices will be set up at the bus area, lower lot/trophy case hallway, and upper lot gray doors closest to C building. All students will have to enter through one of these three locations when they arrive on campus in the mornings. Any student who arrives on campus at other times throughout the day must enter campus through the front office or the trophy case hallway by the main gym.
Today, our students watched a short video to show them what to expect tomorrow when they arrive at school. The video is linked below so that you can view it as well. Obviously, this is not recorded at Eastern, but it is the same system that we will be using.
To help ensure that students will be able to quickly pass through the system, please take a few minutes to help your student clean out their book bag so they do not have any unnecessary items in their book bags. Students will have to remove a few items from their book bag prior to walking through the system. We will have staff on hand to assist them as they walk through the system. Those items include...
Laptops
Tablets
3-Ring Binders
Metal Spiral Notebooks
Metal Lunchboxes
Umbrellas
Metal Glasses case
These devices will also be used in the future at our home athletic events. Please take a minute to review the information on The flyers below. If you have any questions or concerns, then please reach out to Mrs. Simpson at catherine_simpson@abss.k12.nc.us.
