This is Principal Suzanne Simpson with your weekly updates.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms and mom-like figures in our students' lives. I hope your weekend has been great!
Good luck to our softball (3rd round) and soccer (2nd round) teams as they host home playoff games this week. Good luck to our lacrosse team as they travel to Northside Jacksonville on Tuesday to play in the 1st round of the state playoffs.
We also want to wish good luck to Max Brehler as he plays in the state golf tournament on Monday and Tuesday this week.
Finally congratulations to our track and field athletes who qualified for regionals this weekend and those who earned a state championship bid.
Miss Eastern:
Make plans to join us this Tuesday, May 12th for our annual Miss Eastern Pageant. We have 10 amazing candidates this year. Doors will open at 6 and the pageant will begin at 6:30. Tickets are $10. For more information reach out to Ms. Jackowski at dana_jackowski@abss.k12.nc.us.
Opengate Weapons Detection Systems:
We will continue to utilize the Opengate Weapons Detection System at locations across campus. The locations at the bus lot and upper lot will close for the day at 8:45. Students who arrive after 8:45 am should walk around to the front office entrance to be screened. The location at the gym/trophy case hallways will open 10 minutes prior to each class change for students who are coming to campus for the first time. If you arrive at any other time, you must walk around to the front office. Please help us keep our campus secure by encouraging your student not to open exterior doors for anyone and encouraging them to be on time to school.
Transportation for 26-27 School Year:
If your student requires bus transportation next year, you must complete the request form before June 5, 2026. All current and new bus riders have to complete the form. If you do not complete this form before June 5, 2026, you will not be guaranteed transportation when school begins in August.

Attendance Matters:
As we head into the final stretch of the school year, being present in class is more important than ever. Please make every effort to be on time and in class each day. This year as a school we have set an attendance goal of 91%.
Last week’s attendance stats:
9th grade: 89.65%
10th grade: 90.63\%
11th grade: 91.01%
12th grade: 94.09%
Overall: 91.36%
Summer School Registration:
Did you fail a core course with a score between 45%-59%? Are you a senior that needs to recover a course? You're invited to summer school! This year, summer school will be held for three weeks, Monday through Thursday, June 8th-25th, from 9 AM to 12 PM. Once you complete the course(s) you need to recover, you will be finished and do not need to attend for the remainder of days. By attending summer school, you have an opportunity to earn credits that will put you back on-track for graduation. Unfortunately there is no transportation or lunch provided. Please complete this form so that we know you are coming!
AP Exam Schedule:
AP Exams will begin the first week of May. Please ensure that you review this schedule in order to know when your exam(s) will be administered. If you miss a scheduled AP exam there is a fee to take the make-up exam. Please make every effort to be there and on time. We will have a year-end athletics banquet for ALL student-athletes, coaches, and parents. on May 28th! The event will start with refreshments in the gymnasium at 6:00 pm followed by an awards ceremony in the auditorium. This is a time for us to celebrate all that our EA sports teams have accomplished. Show up in your dress attire, walk the red carpet and let’s celebrate! Make plans now to attend!
