Erica Phillips, Principal

Greetings SME Dragons! My name is Erica Phillips. I have been in education since 1996 serving in various capacities: as a Kindergarten teacher, 1st and 5th grade teacher, Beginning Teacher Mentor, a Curriculum Facilitator, Literacy Facilitator, Assistant Principal and Principal. I am thrilled to be your Principal! It’s going to be a fun year full of learning and new adventures, and I can’t wait to see what the year has in store for us! I can’t wait to learn about each of you, but right now, I want to tell you a few things about me! I am a very proud mother of 2 (Jackson & Laura), a wife, a sister and auntie. When I’m not at school, I enjoy crafting, music, reading, the beach and shopping! I want you to know that as your Instructional Leader, it is my goal to make each and every one of you feel safe, loved, cherished, and important! You will learn, grow and thrive!

Cara Hurdle

Cara Hurdle, Assistant Principal

Mrs. Cara Hurdle began her career at Alamance Burlington School System in 2009. She has been an active leader within the elementary school community for the past 13 years. Mrs. Hurdle served as an Exceptional Children’s Teacher for seven years before teaching Kindergarten for six years. Mrs. Hurdle has a passion for building a positive school culture that nurtures all students’ academic and social emotional growth.

Mrs. Hurdle earned her Bachelor's degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education, as well as a Masters degree in Special Education from Elon University. Mrs. Hurdle also received her Masters in School Administration from Gardner-Webb University.

“I am honored to continue learning and leading alongside the students, staff, and parents at South Mebane Elementary School. Together, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of our students by empowering them to become active learners and lifetime leaders.”
