National Honor Society is a student organization for Juniors and Seniors focused on scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Invitations to apply for selection are emailed to students who fulfill the Scholarship criteria (see below) within the first 10 days of the school year and information on how to apply, with a strict deadline, is enclosed. Students who are selected to be members after the application process are required to maintain their GPAs, complete 25 hours of community service, participate in the NHS group service project, and attend regular meetings.
Selection Criteria (Juniors and Seniors only)
Students must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.5 and a minimum weighted GPA of 3.85.
Students must indicate at least two (2) verifiable leadership roles and at least one (1) positive leadership accomplishment in that role for each. The NHS recognizes that leadership can occur outside of elected positions including leadership roles within the classroom and effective participation in positions of responsibility in other activities offered on campus.
Students must only have completed ten (10) hours of verifiable service since the start of ninth grade. Students must provide the name and email address of the person who can verify their hours served.
Students are asked to list any honors or recognitions they have received, as well as list their extra-curricular activities, and any disciplinary actions against them such as ISS, OSS, or detention with an opportunity to explain what happened. Students are then asked to provide two teacher recommendations. Students are asked to provide one community recommendation who may be able to comment on their character, service, and/or leadership.
