It's Women's History Month! One remarkable WHS lady is Dr Frances Dawson! Dr. Frances Dawson taught vocational education (later became CTEC) at Walter Williams High School 1951-1967. During World War II, she worked in the US Office of Education developing vocational education. She was President of North Carolina Education Association (later became North Carolina Association of Educators) and President of North Carolina League of Women Voters. She sat on the President's Advisory Committee for Education during the Nixon administration. She represented North Carolina education at the United Nations for a global education study and she published at least 5 books. She also ran for NC House of Representatives Professor at Elon College from 1967 until her death in 1977. "Take time for work: it is the price of success. Take time to think: it is the source of power. Take time to play: that is the secret of youth. Take time to read: that is the foundation of wisdom. Take time to be friendly: that is the road to happiness." - Dr. Frances Dawson, Vocational Education (later CTEC) teacher at WWHS '51-'67

Big congratulations to these exceptional ABSS musicians who showcased their skills at the 2025 Western Region Orchestra in Boone last weekend! Senior viola player Aslynn West from Walter M. Williams High School and junior trumpet player Christian Boudrealt from Western Alamance High School participated in the Honors Orchestra under Dr. Alexandra Dee's direction from Appalachian State University. Freshman bass player Michael-Andres Cruz from Williams not only performed in the Repertory Orchestra but earned 1st chair in his section! 🎵 The Repertory Orchestra was conducted by Williams' own Orchestra Director, Veronica Biscocho! North Carolina's orchestra program divides the state into eastern and western regions, each hosting special events featuring guest clinicians from across the country. So proud of our musical stars! 🌟
