Looking for a fun way to exercise, see friends, make new friends and support a great cause? The Tracie G Fun Run is an annual event to help raise funds to support the Gerringer Gardens initiative at Garrett Elementary.
Who is Tracie G. & what’s her connection to this race, Gerringer Gardens and our Swamp??? Tracie Gerringer was one of Garrett’s most dedicated and beloved teachers. She was always positive and upbeat, and she always went the extra mile for her students, colleagues and family. Tracie passed away from cancer in 2016, but we strive to keep her legacy thriving with Gerringer Gardens, an outdoor classroom focused on exploration, discovery, science and nature.
Pre-Registration ends September 29th. You can register and participate in the event the day of--medal not guaranteed. $10 per person. Preferred payments are through the PTO’s Venmo (@GatorsPTO) or CashApp ($GatorsPTO), other payment arrangements can be made by contacting us via the PTO gmail account. Please fill out the Google Registration form or email us at GatorsPTO@gmail.com for other options (for registration form or payment).
Who can participate….EVERYONE! All fitness levels and ages are welcome. Run or walk the course. Cheering crews are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and enjoy all the smiles.
What: 3k Cross Country Course (combo of gravel track, grass, hills around the Garrett/Hawfields campus).
When: Saturday, October 1, 2022 @ 9:00 am
Where: Gerringer Gardens, the backside of Garrett Elementary accessed through Hawfields Middle School’s main entrance off HWY 119.
Parking: Please use Hawfields Middle School entrance off of HWY 119 and follow signs for parking. The race will begin and end at Gerringer Gardens. Allow 10-15 minutes to get from parking lot to the Gerringer Gardens Starting Line to get checked in at registration table.

Just a reminder that Monday, September 19th is our first Early Release Day. The students will dismiss at 11:35 am. There will be no gator island on this day. If your child’s afternoon transportation is different, please communicate this change to your child’s teacher in writing.
Due to the modified schedule the cafeteria, will not be serving breakfast on Monday.

Our annual Fall Individual Picture Day is coming up next week. The school wide picture day is Tuesday, September 13th. All students will take their school photo even if they choose not purchase because these will also be used for the yearbook. These individual headshots are from the waist up only. All students will receive a flyer for pricing and payment options. Don’t forget to SMILE on Tuesday!


Great News!! The book fair will be open on Monday, September 12th until 6:00. We invite all families to do some evening shopping. There are so many great books that would make a wonderful addition to your home collection. Please plan to visit the book fair as a family on Monday evening in addition to your child’s assigned day. Thanks in advance for your continued support at this years Fall Book Fair. See you Monday anytime after school until 6:00pm.

Our PTO is already ROCKIN’ here in the SWAMP this year. They have been at open houses selling shirts and looking for active volunteers.
We have an ongoing pop tab collection happening outside the cafeteria where students can place tabs in the correct grade level tube at anytime.
If you find yourself at a PTO event throughout the year and forgot your cash…no worries, online payment options can be found in the flyer and used for payments or for a donation for specific events. Just remember to put the child’s name and reason for payment when paying.
Busy schedule….we all have so many events in our calendars so plan ahead. The PTO calendar is an easy place to find upcoming events for the school/PTO. Mark your calendar early so you don’t miss any of the fun and amazing events planned throughout this school year.



We are excited and ready to begin our fall book fair! We are in need of parent/community volunteers to help make this years student event a success. Our media coordinator, Ms. Minor, is looking for help during this week long event to help students shop/purchase books, check out students, and help with students after they finish shopping. Our 1st PTO parent meeting is September 12th beginning at 5:30. Please plan to join us and learn about all the amazing things our PTO is doing, has planned to do throughout the year, and the many ways you can get involved here at Garrett. We can’t wait for you to join us on Monday, September 12th at 5:30 in the media center or via Zoom.


We would like to invite our "Grandgators" for lunch this Friday, September 9th, to celebrate Grandparents Day. Please invite your grandparents to join us for school lunch on Friday. Students will have their Grandparents join them in the lunch line, sit with them and their friends, and enjoy school lunch. Our PTO will be on site selling shirts and other Gator gear along with our FALL BOOK FAIR!! The Grandgators are welcome to shop while they are here for lunch. We hope to see all of the Grandgators at lunch on Friday, September 9th. Students lunch times will be sent home.

Tonight we welcome all of our Kindergators for our Meet the Teacher Night. Students will get to visit their class and meet their assigned teacher. Class rolls will be available in the main hallway. Please plan to join us during this floating event between 4:00-6:00pm.

We can’t wait to see our 1st-5th Gators this morning! Car riders and school doors open at 7:30. Our teachers are excited to welcome our Gators to the first day of the 2022-2023 school year!

Just a reminder that TONIGHT is our Open House. We hope that all 1st-5th graders can stop by the school sometime between 4:00-6:00 to meet your teacher.
