This is Principal Suzanne Simpson with your weekly updates.  Congratulations to our Marching Band!  They competed this weekend in the Central NC Band Festival and brought home the following awards:

1st place percussion

1st place drum major (also on the entire day)

2nd place music

2nd place in 2A

4th place overall

The highest scoring ABSS band of the day! (out of 4)


Also, congratulations to our volleyball team who won their NCHSAA state playoff first round matchup on Saturday in 3 sets.  They will travel to Croatan High School on Tuesday.  

End of 1st Quarter:

The end of the first quarter is 6 days away on October 27th.  As a reminder, this quarter counts as 40% of a student’s grade in the course.  Please take time to review your student’s grades in Infinite Campus. If you have any questions, reach out directly to their teachers. 

Elon Academy - Freshman Parent Interest Meeting

The Elon Academy is an intensive, multi-phase college access and success program for academically promising high school students in Alamance County with a financial need and/or no family history of college.  This program includes summer residential experiences and year round support.  Join us at Southeast High School October 21st at 6:00 to learn more.


Seniors:
It is never too early to purchase your cap and gown.  Use this link to go ahead and secure your cap and gown for the lowest price of the year.  

Graduation Date is set:  June 5th at 7:00 pm at the Novant Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum

Makeup Picture Day:

Senior and Underclassmen makeup picture day is this Thursday, October 23rd.  This will be the last opportunity for students to get their photo taken to be included in the yearbook.  Please review the schedule and more information here.  


PreACT: 
All 10th graders will have the opportunity to take the PReACT exam this Wednesday, October 22nd.  This is a great chance to practice for the ACT.  If you are a current 10th grader, please click here to see where you will be testing.  We will follow the No EAgle time schedule on this day.  C building will be used for testing.  All C building classes will be moved to other locations.  Your teacher will share that location with you.     

College Application Week:  

During College Application Week starts tomorrow, October 20th.  Students can apply to over 40 colleges and universities in North Carolina for FREE! With application fees ranging from $25 to $75 per institution, they could save hundreds of dollars by applying during College Application Week, opening the door to a world of opportunities.  Dr. Lyons and Ms. Cushman will be available this week in the media center to help you.  Stop by and take advantage of this awesome opportunity!  

Workkeys:

Are you a senior who will be taking the workkeys test?  If the answer is yes, you can compete in a weekly challenge for a chance to win a Chick-fil-A reward card!  Answer the 6 questions found here to earn points by this Thursday at 5pm.  The students with the highest scores will be entered into the drawing to be this week’s winner.


Student Name Update: 
Does your child have a name that they go by that is different from what is listed innInfinite Campus? For example: student's name is Samantha but they go by Sami or student's name is John but they go by Jack. If so, you must complete this form.  Until this form is complete and has been approved, all staff at school are required to call them by the name listed in Infinite Campus.

9th graders:

Healthful Living Parental Consent/Health Screening Consent 2025-26:  Thank you for recently submitting the online Back to School Forms for your student.  Some forms were not available to you at the time of your submission.  Please complete these grade-specific form(s) below for your 9th-grade student.  *If you have previously submitted the consent form, you need not resubmit. 


Parking Pass:
Any student parking on campus should have a valid parking pass displayed.  Please use this link to purchase a pass.  Students who park on campus without a pass are subject to having their car towed at the owner’s expense.  All other school fees/fines must be paid in order for you to be able to purchase a parking pass. 

Cell Phones:  
The majority of our student body is doing a great job with the ABSS Wireless Communication Device ProceduresAs a quick reminder, wireless devices should be placed away from students (in the cell phone holders) during instructional time.  We should not be able to see them on students (in pockets, in ears, etc.)  Thank you for your continued support with these new procedures.

Parents, have you created your Infinite Campus Account?  If not, check your email.  More information about Infinite Campus as well as a link to download the app can be found here.  

Chromebooks:  

Students who do not have chromebooks yet, will be able to check them out during 1st and 2nd period tomorrow.. This year, we are offering families the opportunity to purchase optional insurance for their student(s) chromebook.  The cost of the optional insurance is $25.  This premium is good for one instance of unintentional breakage (lost or intentional damage is not covered) and will help protect you from higher cost.  You may elect when to apply your premium.  Once used, the family would have the option to replace the optional insurance premium for an additional $25.  For more details, including a list of part replacement costs, click here for the Mobile Learning Handbook.  You may use this link to purchase the optional insurance.
