This is Principal Simpson with your weekly updates. I hope each of you had a good winter break. We are excited to welcome you back to campus tomorrow!
EOC & CTE Exams:
EOC testing (Math 1, Math 3, English 2, Biology) and CTE testing will take place next week, January 12th-16th. Here is a detailed schedule. Please be on the lookout later this week for an email for a detailed testing email, including your daily testing location. Finally remember that the exam counts as 20% of your grade.
Teacher Made Exams: Teacher Made Exams will take place this Friday, January 9th. As a reminder per board policy high school students may be exempt from a final exam that is not state required if the student meets the criteria below.
a grade of “A” and no more than five (5) absences (excused/unexcused) during the semester
a grade of “B” and no more than four (4) absences (excused/unexcused) during the semester
a grade of “C” and no more than three (3) absences (excused/unexcused) during the semester
Students who have EOC or CTE exams the following week are expected to be present for their classes on Friday even if they are exempt from their other classes teacher-made exams.
Grades: Make a plan to talk to your teachers about any missing assignments you may have. As a reminder this 9 weeks counts as 40% of your final grade.
Spring Schedules:
Take a moment to review your Spring semester schedule. Please complete this form if you need to change a class for the Spring semester of the 25-26 school year.. Schedule changes are permitted ONLY for the following reasons:
Holes in schedules (no assigned class period)
Juniors/Seniors w/specific graduation requirement needs
Earned credit in summer school or credit recovery
Erroneously placed in class already passed
Administrative decision
Schedule changes are not permitted for switching teachers, personal schedule preferences, etc. Schedule changes must be requested by noon on Thursday, January 8th.
No EAgle Time:
There will be NO EAgle time this week. Students who have CTEC/Graham classes and need lunch should be dismissed at 11:45 to the cafeteria.
EOC Retest Consent:
Starting this school year, students who score Not Proficient on an End-of-Course (EOC) test are eligible for a retest opportunity each year. Families who have students who are in Math 1, Math 3, English 2 or Biology this semester should complete this form. This form is giving consent for your child to participate in retesting if they need it. This consent will remain in effect until your child graduates or you revoke it in writing. You will be contacted after EOC testing if your child is not proficient and eligible to take advantage of the rest opportunity.
Free ACT Bootcamp:
We are excited to invite all juniors to participate in the ABSS ACT Bootcamp on February 7, 2026 at Cummings High School from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. This is an ACT Prep Saturday that is meant to support all 11th grade students in ABSS to prepare for the state-wide administration of the ACT on February 25th. Students will be provided with hour-long sessions in Reading, English, Math, and Science; a workbook to use at the event and to practice independently; and snacks and lunch will be provided for students who register to attend. Parking Lot:
Students should not be in the parking lots for any reason unless they are leaving to go to ACC, CTEC or are leaving to go home (either with Early Release or they have been signed out in the front office).
Seniors:
It is never too early to purchase your cap and gown. Use this link to go ahead and secure your cap and gown for the lowest price of the year. Graduation Date is set: June 5th at 7:00 pm at the Novant Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum.
The FAFSA:
Free Application for Federal Student Aid is now open for the 2026-27 school year! How to access the application:
Go to StudentAid.gov.
Choose - Create an account - This will result in an FSA ID which you will use each year to complete the form
The student completes their portion of the form. Just follow along and answer each question.
The student will enter their parent/guardian email.
The parent/guardian will open the email, create their own account (FSA ID) and complete their portion of the form.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The FAFSA will pull tax information from 2024 using an IRS data retrieval tool based on student and parent social security numbers. If the parent does not file taxes, or the 2024 information is not available from the IRS, it will need to be entered manually.
REMEMBER: You MUST complete the FAFSA to receive any financial aid, including The Next NC Scholarship, which covers tuition at any community college and most public NC Universities for the majority of students.
Student Name Update:
Does your child have a name that they go by that is different from what is listed innInfinite Campus? For example: student's name is Samantha but they go by Sami or student's name is John but they go by Jack. If so, you must complete this form. Until this form is complete and has been approved, all staff at school are required to call them by the name listed in Infinite Campus.
Parking Pass:
Any student parking on campus should have a valid parking pass displayed. Please use this link to purchase a pass. Students who park on campus without a pass are subject to having their car towed at the owner’s expense. All other school fees/fines must be paid in order for you to be able to purchase a parking pass.
Cell Phones:
The majority of our student body is doing a great job with the ABSS Wireless Communication Device Procedures. As a quick reminder, wireless devices should be placed away from students (in the cell phone holders) during instructional time. We should not be able to see them on students (in pockets, in ears, etc.) Thank you for your continued support with these new procedures.
