Cartoon Eagle Head Facing to the Right

Good afternoon,

This is Principal Suzanne Simpson with your weekly updates.  We are elated  to welcome each member of our EAgle Family to campus tomorrow!

Senior Sunrise

Members of the Class of 2027 we can’t wait to see you tomorrow morning at 6:15 for Senior Sunrise.  Senior parents are providing light breakfast.  Don’t forget a blanket to sit on!  We can’t wait to see you at the football field that morning to kick off your senior year!

Arrival to Campus

As students arrive on campus each morning they will have to enter through one of three OpenGate Weapons Detection System locations.

  • Bus lot (7:45-8:40)

  • Lower lot/trophy case hallway (8:15-8:40)

  • C building  (8:15-8:40)

Any student who arrives on campus after 8:40 or at other times throughout the day must enter campus through the front office.

Items to remove from bag before entering:

  • Laptops

  • Tablets

  • 3-Ring Binders

  • Metal Spiral Notebooks

  • Metal Lunch boxes

  • Umbrellas

  • Metal Glasses case

All car riders should be dropped off and picked up in the back of the school near the football field/gym.  Please do not use the front circle as it causes unsafe conditions for both students and drivers.

Wireless Communication Device Policy & Procedures

As we prepare to begin the 2026-2027 school year, we want to remind everyone of the Wireless Communication Policy and Procedures.   Please take time to review the entire wireless communication procedures that will be in place at all ABSS High Schools this year.  It is important that students and parents are aware of the procedures and consequences.

A few things to note regarding our procedures.

  • All students will be asked to turn their cell phone off and put it into a collection area in the classroom until the end of class.

  • Students are not allowed to use wireless headphones in class.  All headphones need to be wired.

  • Students will be allowed to have their wireless devices at lunch and during transitions between classes.

We know this will be an adjustment for all as we return to school, but we appreciate your help and support as we work to follow this law and to reduce the amount of distractions in our classrooms.

On Friday morning at 8:30, join us in the courtyard for an exciting start to the school day!  Hear the band play, see the dance team, cheerleaders and get pumped up for the first home football game of the year!  The student section theme for Friday night is Hawaiian so be sure to grab some Hawaiian gear to wear to school and to the game!

Then make plans to join us at 7:00 for kickoff.  All Eastern students will receive FREE admission to the game thanks to a special partnership with McDonald’s.  Students will receive a special admission ticket at school this week that they will need to bring with them Friday night to get into the game for FREE.  And that's not all! McDonald's will be offering some special promotions just for EA students.  We are thankful to McDonalds for this sponsorship!

Transportation Request Form

If your student is planning on riding a bus this school year, please complete the Transportation Request Form ASAP if you haven't already done so. All families must complete the form for your student to be scheduled on a bus route, regardless of whether they rode a bus previously. All bus assignments can be viewed in Infinite Campus when the request has been processed. Please be patient when viewing your student's bus assignment as the Transportation Department is processing several requests.

Infinite Campus - Back to School Forms

Infinite Campus is where students and parents can access grades, attendance, and other important school information.  The Back to School forms must be filled out in their entirety and accurately as they provide important information to the state and ABSS regarding your student, including medical needs and who can pick them up from school.  The call system, which includes emails, calls, and text messages  is synched daily with Infinite Campus.  If your contact information is not updated, you may miss out on important information.  For more information or to set up your account, check out this website.

Chromebooks

New students who do not have chromebooks yet, will be able to check them out during 1st and 2nd period tomorrow. This year, we are offering families the opportunity to purchase optional insurance for their student(s) chromebook.  The cost of the optional insurance is $25.  This premium is good for one instance of unintentional breakage (lost or intentional damage is not covered) and will help protect you from higher cost.  You may elect when to apply your premium.  Once used, the family would have the option to replace the optional insurance premium for an additional $25.  For more details, including a list of part replacement costs, click here for the Mobile Learning Handbook.  You may use this link to purchase the optional insurance.

Here Comes the Bus

Is your student a bus rider?  ABSS will be implementing the “Here Comes the Bus” app to help track students as they travel to and from school and get updates on delays and arrival times.  Please be patient as we roll out this new platform.  Families can download the free app in the Google or Apple app stores.  For directions on how to connect to ABSS, please visit our Back to School webpage.

Student Early Sign-out

No checkout will be done over the phone.  Parents/guardians may email the school eahcheckout@abss.k12.nc.us to request a student sign-out.  This email will go to all staff in our main office.  Please include the time and date that your student needs to be dismissed.  The email must come from an email address that we have on file.

Student/Parent Handbook

Please take time to review the student/parent handbook.  It can be found here.

Food Deliveries/Leaving Campus to get food = NOT ALLOWED

Please be aware that third-party food deliveries are strictly prohibited on campus at all times. This policy protects our students and staff by maintaining a secure environment, while also minimizing daytime disruptions to maximize valuable instructional time. We encourage all students to utilize cafeteria services or bring a packed lunch from home. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school safe and focused on learning.
