Pleasant Grove Elementary Weekly Updates

Week of May 29, 2023

  • Tomorrow, Monday, May 29- Memorial Day No school for students and staff; students will return to school on Tuesday, May 30.

  • Parents mark your calendars for our EOY testing dates; which you can find under the weekly updates on the website.  This week our Grades 3 to 5 students will be testing.  Please check the calendar for specific dates.

  • Kindergarten and 5th-grade parents, the moving-up ceremonies will be held on June 7:

Kindergarten will begin at 8:30 am

5th grade beginning at 10:30 am

As we know that this is a family event, I do want to stress that parking and seating are limited; please be mindful of who you invite from your families and consider carpooling.

  • Parents, as we are coming close to the end of the school year, temperatures are rising and so are behavior issues.  Please take a moment to speak with your child about expectations and how it is important to let someone know when they are feeling frustrated and upset.

  • Parents, if you know of any families needing to register a new kindergartener; please direct them to the PGE or ABSS website or have them contact our data manager, April Foster.

  • We are excited to announce our school's Facebook page! Parents please follow us and see the fantastic things about our school!

Check out our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/abssp...

  • Please continue to speak with your child about our PGE bus expectations; I am still receiving a lot of bus misbehavior referrals: PGE Bus Rules and Expectations

Mark your calendars!

Testing Prep Tips for Parents

  1. Make sure your child gets plenty of rest the night before the test.

  2. On the morning of the test, your child needs to get up in plenty of time so he/she won't feel rushed.

  3. Feed your child a good breakfast. Research shows that children do better on tests if they have had a good breakfast. Or make sure your child arrives at school on time to have breakfast at school. (Breakfast will end promptly at 8:00 am on testing days)

  4. Do as much as you can to make your child feel comfortable. Try not to say things to make him/her feel more nervous.

  5. Reassure your child that no matter the outcome of the test you will still love him/her. Encourage them to simply do their best.

  6. Take an active role in your child's education throughout the school year. Let your child know you are interested in his/her learning by taking part in the entire process.

  7. When the scores are sent to you, talk to your child's teacher and/or principal. This will help you to understand them more clearly.

  8. Give your child praise even if he or she didn't do well on the test.
