On Wednesday, March 8th, ABSS school social workers attended a celebration at the CityGate Dream Center in Burlington.  It was their first in-person gathering since 2020.  Organized by Lead School Social Worker Kimberly Yarborough, the goal was to recognize the important work social workers do every day, in connection with National School Social Work Week.

The theme for National School Social Work Week 2023 is “We Rise.”  Kimberly explained the meaning behind the theme. “School Social Workers rise up - supporting their students, families, and school communities.  School Social Workers rise to share hope.  They rise to listen and understand.  They rise to challenge inequities. They rise to support all students.”

Special guests included NCDPI School Social Work Consultant Pachovia Lovett and ABSS Student Support Program Director Yolanda Anderson.  Lovett provided an update on legislation impacting social workers and words of gratitude and encouragement.  Anderson also expressed her thanks for the hard work school social workers put in every day.
