Faded photograph of staff mopping water intrusion into a school building

We were fortunate that today's weather was minimal compared to the storms and flooding we experienced over the past several days. However, we continue to face challenges from the lingering effects of the recent heavy rains.

Roof leaks and water intrusion persist at several of our schools today, causing ongoing disruptions and facility issues. We look forward to partnering with our County Commissioners to find solutions to these problems and make needed repairs and improvements to our school buildings.

During window replacement work this past weekend, some surface mold was discovered above old windows in the ceiling area of four classrooms at Eastlawn Elementary. To ensure the health and safety of students and staff, those classrooms have been temporarily relocated while we work swiftly with contractors to remediate the mold fully.

A bathroom at Williams High School also remains closed due to an active roof leak, and water intrusion continues to impact multiple other campuses. We are taking all necessary action to mitigate these issues as resources allow.

We appreciate the dedication of our staff, who persist through ongoing leaks, puddles, and water intrusion to support student learning. Our custodians, maintenance workers, teachers, and staff remain resilient, often arriving early to mop up standing water, rearrange classrooms, and carry on despite disruptive facility issues. We sincerely thank the staff for their patience and commitment to students under these challenging circumstances. Their flexibility and care for our schools is admirable as we work to find solutions quickly.

We await the results of the County's comprehensive audit of roofs and HVAC systems across our schools. This will help us understand the full scope of needs so we can work together to address critical deficiencies.

Providing healthy and safe learning environments for our students and staff will remain our top priority.
