PBIS
E. M. Holt is participating in an important initiative again this year. It is called Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS). It is a program supported by the Public Schools of North Carolina and the Alamance-Burlington School System. It is an effective and proactive process for improving social competence and academic achievement for all students. The research-based, school-wide, behavior support system will help create a consistent systemic approach that will allow for a happier, safer environment for our students.
As part of the PBIS program, we have established several clear rules for the behavior we expect in all areas of our school. We will explicitly teach those expectations to the students and reward them regularly with behavior charts and incentives. The expectations for all student behavior will be clear throughout our school.
The expectations have been organized into a matrix highlighted with the acronym P.A.W.S. which stands for:
Put Safety First
Act Responsibly
Work for Success
Show Respect
The matrix describes the behaviors that are expected at E. M. Holt. We will apply consistent consequences and positive reinforcement for all students. Please remember to join and check Class Dojo for feedback. We believe that by helping students practice good behavior, we will build a community where all students have an environment where they can succeed and grow.
Thank you for your support!
