Congratulations to Kelly Westbrook, the Career & Technical Education teacher at Southern Alamance High School for being named NCCAT (North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching) Teacher of The Year for the district! Since joining ABSS in 2005, Mrs. Westbrook has been teaching Food Science and Technology, as well as various levels of Foods and Nutrition. Let's give a huge round of applause 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 to the exceptional Southern Alamance High School - SAHS Patriots Career and Technical Student Organization! At the recent State Leadership Conference, all 39 competing students placed in the top 5 in their respective events - an incredible achievement. 🏆 We're overjoyed that 15 teams have qualified for the national competition in Seattle this summer by securing 1st or 2nd place finishes. These outstanding students will proudly represent ABSS on the national stage. Additionally, Olivia Davis was elected 1st Vice President of North Carolina FCCLA for 2024-2025 - wow! 🌟 This weekend, the Southern Alamance High School - SAHS Patriots Student Council shined bright at the NCASC State Convention. From listening to inspiring speakers and participating in leadership workshops, to running in elections and giving back through community service projects, the students were involved with a lot of awesome work. 🔥 This is big - SAHS Student Council was recognized as a State Honor Council. Moreover, seniors Katie Graves, Emerson Smith, and Addison Sutton were inducted into the NCASC Hall of Fame for their outstanding leadership and contributions. 👏. Additionally, Junior Emma Smith has been elected as the NCASC Central District Chair. Southern Alamance will host the Central District Conference later this fall, showcasing their excellence in leadership and hospitality. Congratulations to the SAHS StuCo team! 🏆 Hunter Safety Success! 🏆 Our Southern Alamance Middle School and Southern Alamance High School Hunter Safety teams had an outstanding showing at the recent district tournaments! Middle School: 🥇 The team took 1st place overall, winning rifle and hunter skills! They were runners-up in archery and shotgun. ⭐ Michael Edmunds - 1st individual test score ⭐ Asher Nance - 1st individual overall High School: 🥈 The FFA Red team placed 2nd overall, winning archery! They were also runners-up in rifle and hunter skills. ⭐ Sam Nance - High score senior individual 🥉 The FFA White team earned 3rd overall and the Sportsmanship Award! They placed 2nd in shotgun and hunter skills. 💪The FFA Blue team took 8th overall and is gearing up for the state tournament in April! 📚 Books upon books upon books! 📚 We are tremendously grateful to the Southern Alamance High School National Honor Society and Community Service Coordinator Lindsey Cook for their generous book drive for Alexander Wilson Elementary. Lindsey and all the NHS students collaborated with AWE's Media Specialist, Mrs. Quigley, to organize the donation of 249 children's books, 24 teacher books, 28 workbooks, and 10 magazines. These resources will be an invaluable addition to classroom libraries, supporting AWE teachers and students in their reading journeys! Save the Date! 🗓️ Join us for a fun and informative evening at the last Family University of the year, January 29th at Cummings High School! 🌟 A light dinner will be provided at no cost to families before you choose from many useful sessions on topics like registering for high school courses, career and technical education opportunities, and elementary reading and math strategies. Several sessions will also be available in Spanish (Algunas sesiones también estarán disponibles en español.) Childcare will be available for children from Pre-K to 5th grade, so the whole family can participate. The Family University is a great chance to get helpful information while connecting with other families and teachers. We hope to see you there - don't miss this valuable opportunity to support your student's growth and education!

Today, the Student Council Leadership Team from Southern Alamance High School organized an uplifting community service project at the Twin Lakes Retirement Community. Twenty-six students divided into teams to spread holiday cheer to the senior residents. They led festive crafts and games that prompted laughter and great conversation. Later, they caroled together through the halls and into the common areas with songs. The students carried themselves with sincere attitudes, respectful composure, and eagerness to connect. The FCCLA chapters of Southern Alamance and Southeast Alamance met for a joint leadership conference today! After an energetic opening session, there were breakout sessions for community service planning, trivia, competition practice, and discussion about how to improve their chapters.
