The Communications Office plans, develops, and manages a broad array of external and internal communication programs to benefit our schools, staff, and community. We work closely with the Superintendent, each department, every school, and the Board of Education to create and coordinate effective communication strategies that support and promote the mission and work of the district.

In addition, the Communications Office:

  • seeks and maintains partnerships with area individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations to benefit students, staff, and the community

  • serves as the system’s liaison with local, state, and national media outlets

  • promotes and provides timely information about district events, initiatives and accomplishments to internal and external audiences

  • develops, coordinates, and implements crisis communication plans

  • develops and distributes a variety of district-wide publications

  • maintains current district news information on the website and social media accounts

Media Inquiries:

ABSS is committed to open and honest communication with the public. We understand the important role the media plays in keeping our community informed. To ensure accuracy and transparency, all media inquiries must be submitted in writing to our Communications Office. We will provide a response in writing in a timely manner. For television news outlets, we will make reasonable efforts to accommodate on-camera interviews when the story merits it and our schedule allows. By having a formal process for media inquiries and responses, we can provide the public with the most accurate, up-to-date information about our schools.

Inclement Weather Announcements

Our district's number one goal is to operate schools as safely and effectively as possible, following the published annual school calendar schedule as closely as possible. When there is inclement weather forecast for Alamance County, ABSS is prepared to make adjustments to schedules as needed which may include announcing a later arrival time, an early dismissal time, possible school closure or a remote learning day.

Community Flyers

Do you have a flyer you wish to distribute? ABSS uses Peachjar to send electronic flyers to families and staff. Visit our Peachjar Distribution webpage for more information and how to get started.

Public Records

The public records of the Alamance-Burlington School System are subject to North Carolina's Public Records Act, General Statute 132, which governs public records at the state level. Under this statute, a "public record" refers to any record created or received by the School Board or school employees as part of their official duties. It is important to note that information requests, made for the purpose of obtaining answers to specific questions, differ from public records requests. Public agencies like school districts are only required to provide access to existing records in their possession and are not obligated to create new records or compile information to respond to public records requests.
