ABSS believes education is one of the most important things we can provide for our children, and every minute spent in school is a valuable opportunity to learn and grow.

The District launched a public service campaign today that will include regular social media posts and alerts to families whose students are frequently absent or tardy.

The District is also sending staff out to visit students who are chronically late or absent in an effort to improve the District’s overall attendance numbers.

“Attendance matters, and it’s essential for students to be present in school every day to take advantage of all the learning opportunities that are available,” said Dr. Kristy Davis, Chief Student Services Officer.

Students who attend school regularly are more likely to succeed academically and socially, develop good habits and routines, and build positive relationships with their peers and teachers.

Being tardy for school is also an issue and part of the “Every Minute Matters” campaign.  Ten minutes per day adds up to 50 minutes per week and nearly one and a half weeks over the course of a school year.

“As parents, educators, and community members, it is our responsibility to encourage and support regular attendance, so that all students can reach their full potential and achieve success in school and beyond,” Davis added.
