Secure Your Student’s Seat: New Bus Transportation Requests Required for 2026-2027

The Alamance-Burlington School System is transitioning its transportation software to a new platform for the 2026-2027 school year. As part of this transition, all students who require bus transportation to or from school must submit a new request to opt into the service.

Please be advised that no information from the current school year will be used to populate bus ridership for next year. To guarantee a bus assignment for the start of school in August, the enrollment form must be completed by the deadline.

Athena Routing System by Edulog

The Athena Routing system is being adopted to manage student transportation. This software provides several functional improvements to our daily operations:

  • Direct Student Information Integration: Athena links directly with district databases to ensure routing is based on the most current student residence and enrollment data.

  • Route Optimization: The software utilizes advanced mapping algorithms to develop efficient paths, aiming to minimize ride times and improve arrival consistency

  • Safety-Focused Stop Placement: The system provides tools for staff to evaluate and select the safest stop locations based on local traffic patterns and geographical data.

  • Real-Time Dispatching: Dispatchers can monitor fleet movements and adjust for road closures or maintenance issues in real-time to maintain schedule adherence.

  • Dynamic Data Management: The cloud-based platform allows for faster processing of new transportation requests throughout the school year.

Here Comes the Bus App

Beginning in the Fall of 2026, ABSS will introduce the Here Comes the Bus application. This tool will provide parents and guardians with the ability to view the real-time location of their student's bus and receive notifications regarding arrival times.
