There was an unforgettable "wild" reading extravaganza last night at the Harvey R. Newlin Elementary (follow their new official page!) "Wild About Reading Night" event!
Students and families enjoyed hearing stories from special guest readers like Superintendent Dr. Butler, Ben Briscoe from WFMY News 2, May Memorial Library readers, Elon University students, and Newlin staff.
In addition to storytelling adventures, there was food and "book bingo" in the cafeteria, with a chance to win some book-themed prizes. Thank you to all our amazing guest readers and families for making this community celebration of reading with Newlin so special! 📚🎉

We appreciate our hard-working maintenance staff for all they do in our buildings each day, including replacing damaged ceiling tiles in multiple buildings after storms.

Western Alamance Middle School had some special guests today! Several students from the Western Alamance High School Science Club led labs for 8th-graders, teaching biology, robotics, and coding activities that connect science and math. 🧪🔬⚙️
A huge thank you to Ms. Baumgarner for organizing this awesome visit and to the WAHS students for sharing your impressive knowledge and talents! 🙌

ABSS Difference Makers - Six ABSS high school seniors are currently participating in a 30-week hospital internship program called Project SEARCH, now in its 10th year, through a partnership between the Alamance-Burlington School System and Cone Health. These students are gaining valuable work skills and hands-on experience at Alamance Regional Medical Center with the goal of easing their transition from school into the workforce after graduation. During our window replacement project this weekend at Eastlawn Elementary, some surface mold was discovered above old windows in the ceiling area in four classrooms. Students and staff in those rooms have been temporarily relocated while we work with our contractor to fully remediate the issue. Rest assured we are taking all necessary steps to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we complete these facility improvements.

📚 Books upon books upon books! 📚 We are tremendously grateful to the Southern Alamance High School National Honor Society and Community Service Coordinator Lindsey Cook for their generous book drive for Alexander Wilson Elementary. Lindsey and all the NHS students collaborated with AWE's Media Specialist, Mrs. Quigley, to organize the donation of 249 children's books, 24 teacher books, 28 workbooks, and 10 magazines. These resources will be an invaluable addition to classroom libraries, supporting AWE teachers and students in their reading journeys! Thank you to Lindsey, the NHS student leaders, Mrs. Quigley, and all those who donated! 🙏👏 #StudentCenteredFutureFocused

Thought-provoking debates were on the agenda yesterday as Early College at ACC debate team hosted the Eastern Alamance High School team for a scrimmage in preparation for the NC High School Ethics Bowl. We appreciated the judges from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill who provided feedback to our teams. We wish all our teams the best when they compete on January 27th!
