Incredible news for our students! Tanger Outlets, Mebane presented four grants to our schools this week. Take a look at these transformative school projects:
🌟 Denise Bungardy (Elon Elementary) - A $1,285 sensory room featuring specialized equipment like bubble tubes, weighted blankets, and sound machines to help students with autism and sensory needs better regulate themselves and engage in learning. The room will provide vestibular, tactile, visual, and auditory input in a safe space.
🌟 Loretta Atkins (North Graham/South Mebane Elementary) - A $2,373 project replacing worn playground equipment with 25 new commercial-grade swings, ensuring all K-5 students at both schools can safely enjoy active play. These schools serve a combined total of 25 swings between them.
🌟 Chanel Jones (Broadview Middle) - A $2,500 classroom laundry initiative providing students with access to washers, dryers, and supplies while teaching essential life skills. The program includes a confidential service system and life skills curriculum about laundry care and time management.
🌟 Amy Chinnici (Sellars Gunn Education Center) - A $500 'TOUCH of Literacy' project creating multi-sensory storybook kits with tactile objects to help visually impaired students better understand and engage with literature. The project will develop 10 specialized learning kits this school year.
Thank you Tanger Outlets for investing in innovative solutions that support student success across our district!

👩🍳 The kitchen came to the classroom as Press Coffee+Crêpes transformed an ordinary school day into a French culinary adventure at Elon Elementary. Fourth graders watched in anticipation as owners Brett and Darian DeVries handcrafted an array of mouthwatering crêpes, from classic Nutella and Berries and Crème to their popular French Toast creation. The highlight was a special off-menu treat - a Crème Brûlée crêpe made exclusively for this annual celebration of La Chandeleur. This was all eaten quickly, but fortunately for us one student captured it all on her camera! 📸

❄️🎅 Elon Elementary's fourth graders brightened the day at Twin Lakes Community, bringing holiday cheer through song and dance! These talented students performed a special program, organized by music teacher Ms. Giraldo, featuring winter favorites and holiday classics, complete with spoken performances that showcased their hard work and enthusiasm. The residents were treated to an incredible show and some were clapping and singing along! Keep an eye out for video highlights coming soon! 🎶 ✨

🇺🇸🎉Today first grade enjoyed an informative talk by our fellow Veterans of the community! Students learned all about the USA flag. They also had the opportunity to say the Pledge of Allegiance! Students proudly waved their flags🇺🇸.
We are proud of our flag🇺🇸!

While Thanksgiving is behind us, we continue to give thanks at Elon. We are so grateful for a fun and successful Turkey Trot 2024. Our students, staff, and Elon Community collectively raised money to develop parts of our outdoor learning space. We appreciate all the efforts by our Elon PTO and our Elon Community! It was such a FUN DAY! 🥰💛✨THANK YOU!!!!!

Welcome back! Did you watch the Macy's Thanksgiving parade on TV and spot Tristan from Eastern Alamance High School playing trumpet? 👀 Many schools had their own parades prior to the break, including Elon Elementary! Each class brought special themes to life in their pre-break parade - from literary connections to Global Goals. Art teacher Ms. Smith worked with every student to create unique pieces, while Media Specialist Ms. Hopper created the script and program, narrated by Principal Hurdle! Special guests included Dash robots, piloted by Robotics Club members! Families lined the campus walkways to watch their proud Lil' Phoenix march. 🦃

🌍 Hallo! Our Elon Elementary Lil' Phoenix received a special visit from Leni Henne, a Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program (CBYX) student from Mering, Germany. Currently a junior at Western Alamance High School, Leni shared fascinating insights about German culture, teaching our students common phrases like "Hallo" (Hello) and "Danke" (Thank you). Before saying "Auf Wiedersehen" (Goodbye), she treated students to delicious homemade cookies that gave them a sweet taste of home! 🇩🇪🇺🇸

🌎On Friday, November 1, Elon Elementary was proud to kick off Native
American Heritage Month by hosting three ambassadors from the Lumbee
Tribe of North Carolina: Little Miss Lumbee Rose Odom, Junior Miss
Lumbee Vedah Dial, and Teen Miss Lumbee Malaya Florita. The
ambassadors shared their cultural history with us by singing, telling stories
and promoting their heritage. The Lumbee, located in the eastern part of
North Carolina, are the largest Native American tribe east of the Mississippi
River and take their name from the Lumber River. The girls will be
traveling around North and South Carolina this month speaking to schools
about their pride in their culture. They certainly helped us fulfill our Global
mission of feeling connected to the world!🌎
