Sylvan was excited to welcome the North Carolina Theatre for Young People from UNCG today! They performed the play, The Last Stop on Market Street, based on the 2016 Newbery Award-winning book by Matt de la Pena and illustrated by Christian Robinson. Our Blue Jays were an attentive audience and enjoyed seeing the book come to life! Students will be discussing the similarities and differences between the two versions in their dance/drama classes. We are so proud to be an A+ school and to highlight theater arts! #aplusschool #artsineducation

Mrs. Turney's second-grade class was PUMPED about solving some Winter Olympics word problems! 💪 They were using the outdoor space at Sylvan Elementary School on this pleasant afternoon, working out subtraction problems using a selected strategy, showing the answer on paper, and with a student-suggested action: in this case, squats! 31 - 12 = 19, so 19 squats, it is! A little drizzle started to fall towards the end, but that didn't stop these math superstars (or Mrs. Turney!)

It’s not too late to complete your Treasure Map, earn your 3 rewards, and help your child’s teacher earn a shopping spree to purchase books and supplies for their classroom! When 60% of the classroom’s students register and invite 10+ friends and family members, that teacher will earn a $100 shopping spree. If ALL the classroom students invite at least 10+ friends and family members, the teacher will earn a $200 shopping spree. Visit
