Today officially marks ONE MONTH of school, and as we look back on these first few weeks, one thing is very clear: our Blue Jay team has not been doing this alone. 💙
Behind our teachers and staff is an incredible community that continues to show up, cheer us on, and remind us just how supported we are.
This #ThankfulThursday, we want to give a BIG Blue Jay thank-you to:
💙 Kimesville Road Baptist Church for feeding our staff before Open House and helping us kick off the year with full hearts and full stomachs!
💙 Mt. Zion for providing breakfast during our first week of school and giving our team a little extra fuel during one of the busiest weeks of the year!
☕ Carrillon LLC and Coach Kristy at Powerhouse Reform for sponsoring visits from the coffee truck for our teachers and staff during August and September. Because sometimes stepping up to the plate requires a little caffeine! 😉☕⚾
These acts of kindness may seem simple, but to a staff working hard to give their very best to children each day, they mean more than you know.
One month down, and we are incredibly grateful for the churches, businesses, organizations, families, and community members who continue to stand beside Sylvan.
It truly takes ONE TEAM to accomplish ONE GOAL, and we are so thankful you are part of ours. 💙

Some people simply walk into a room and make it better—and that’s exactly what our Big Bat Energy Award celebrates! This recognition goes to a Sylvan staff member, voted by their peers, who consistently brings the positivity, energy, encouragement, and heart that makes our team stronger.

From Week 2 to Week 3, we saw a decrease in excused absences and early checkouts, which means more students were able to stay in the classroom and keep learning. That is worth celebrating!
At the same time, we still have important work to do. Our unexcused absences and tardies increased, and in just three weeks, our students have collectively missed more than 64,000 instructional minutes — over 1,068 hours of learning.
That’s why our Week 4 focus is simple: Be here. Be on time. Stay all day whenever possible.
When students are present, they have access to strong instruction, relationships, support, and opportunities to grow. We appreciate our families partnering with us to help every Blue Jay make every minute count.

There is so much to celebrate at Sylvan! 💙🐦⚾ Our data shows meaningful growth, especially in reading, overall growth, and outcomes for our EDS students—and we are incredibly proud of the hard work behind those numbers!
Do we still have work to do? Absolutely—and we’re already stepping up to the plate! We’re focused, we’re making adjustments, and we’re committed to getting better for our Blue Jays. But today, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the growth, recognize the progress, and thank our students, staff, and families who made it possible!

Blue Jay families, we’ve had a great start to the year, but our attendance data also tells an important story. We have only been in school for 10 days, and collectively our students have already missed 28,150 minutes of instruction—that’s more than 469 HOURS of learning. That’s a lot of valuable classroom time in just two weeks.
The cause-and-effect is simple: More time at school ➡️ More instruction ➡️ More opportunities to learn ➡️ More opportunities to grow.
We can have amazing teachers, strong instruction, and great support systems—but we can’t teach them if they aren’t here, and they can’t grow if they aren’t here to learn.
We know illnesses and unavoidable circumstances happen. But when students are healthy and able to attend, we need them here, on time, and staying for the full school day.
Let’s work together to change those numbers! 💙

Our roofing project begins tomorrow! As work gets underway, please remember that there will be no parking behind the school until further notice. K–5 car rider and bus arrival/dismissal will continue as normal with no changes to those procedures.
