Mrs. Long's class kicked off the weekend with a great Hexagon discussion!
Students have worked on a Social Studies lesson segment examining primary and secondary sources. The final discussion in small groups was a Hexagon Discussion that encouraged Critical Thinking analysis of the sources.
Students created links and built arguments answering the question using this format. They really enjoyed this discussion format!
Excellent performance tonight by our 6th grade Band and Chorus students!!Special Thanks to Mr. McConnell, Band director and Ms. Boggs, Chorus director for preparing our students for Fall Concert. Way to rock the stage Eagles!!!
🎨🏺 Arts in Education Week Spotlight: Woodlawn Middle students are molding their talents as part of the North Carolina Museum of Art Artist Innovation Mentorship (AIM) program! Under art teacher John Dodson's guidance, they've explored pottery and batik with guest artist Laura Daughtry, pottery instructor from Eastern Alamance High School. Their creative works even graced a summer exhibition at the Mebane Arts Center! Mr. Dodson shares, "This program is a fantastic way to expose students to the wider world of art. Students get to meet local artists that have continued to make art past their school years, some as a hobby and some as a career."
As we celebrate Arts in Education Week, programs like NCMA AIM showcase the power of creativity in schools. In its first year, AIM reached over 100 students and 5,000 community members across seven NC counties. Woodlawn Middle eagerly continues this journey, planning more artistic explorations with more guest artists and a potential school beautification project.

Save the Date! 🗓️ Join us for a fun and informative evening at the last Family University of the year, January 29th at Cummings High School! 🌟 A light dinner will be provided at no cost to families before you choose from many useful sessions on topics like registering for high school courses, career and technical education opportunities, and elementary reading and math strategies. Several sessions will also be available in Spanish (Algunas sesiones también estarán disponibles en español.) Childcare will be available for children from Pre-K to 5th grade, so the whole family can participate. The Family University is a great chance to get helpful information while connecting with other families and teachers. This is Mr. Kazimir, your Principal at the amazing Woodlawn Middle School. I just wanted to thank each of you for patience and trust as we moved through this very unique set of circumstances. I have been able to inspect our building and I can assure you that all is in order for a great start to a new and exciting school year! Remember tomorrow is a three hour delay start, so our doors will open at 11:15 to greet your children. I will have staff waiting and assigned to help anyone who is unsure where to go, and I promise we will take care of each child as if they are our own.... because our staff is dedicated to providing a wonderful and safe experience for everyone! I cant wait to see our students tomorrow and remember... Eagles always Soar!!!

Good evening Woodlawn families. This is just a last reminder for students to turn in all library materials, Chromebooks and chargers before they leave for the summer. There is a replacement fee for all lost library materials, computers and chargers so please turn those materials in to the school. Thank you.
All ABSS rising 6th graders are invited to attend 4 jam-packed, fun, and engaging days at their assigned Middle School for 2023-2024! Light breakfast, lunch, and transportation are provided. On April 28th, 8th graders will be visiting the high school that they will be attending. Please return the signed permission slip by April 21st so that can participate.
The Book Fair runs through next week. Parents can order and pay online or students can purchase items during the school day.
