October 30

Good Evening Williams Community!

It's hard to believe the school year's first quarter is complete. Report Cards can be picked up at our Face-to-Face / Report Card Pickup event on Monday, November 7, in the Williams High cafeteria

Below are the announcements for the week.

  1. Monday, October 31, is a Teacher Workday - no school for students.

  2. Fall picture makeups and retakes for 9th-11th graders AND Senior portrait makeups will take place on Thursday, November 3rd. Seniors do not need to sign up for an appointment. A schedule will be sent to those who still need their picture taken telling them when to report to the photographer.  Click here for picture order form.

  3. Men's basketball tryouts are Tuesday, November 1, from 6pm to 8pm. Please bring water, athletic shoes, and an updated physical.

  4. The Key Club is sponsoring a Thanksgiving Food Drive. As we enter this holiday season, looking forward to family gatherings and spending time together, let's think about blessing families in need! After the past few years, many have struggled, and we want to gather as a community to help provide a meal for those families who have not yet recovered. We want to ensure that we can help families, especially if we have the resources. If you can, we ask that you donate non-perishable foods as listed below. If a non-perishable item is not yet on the list, feel free to donate it. All donations are greatly appreciated! Canned, Bagged, or Boxed: Corn, Green beans, Cranberry sauce, Sweet potatoes (yams), Mixed vegetables, Cornbread Mix, Macaroni and Cheese, Potatoes, Desserts, Rice, Beans, and Stuffing. Donation locations are outside the guidance office, outside the art classrooms, and outside the library.

  5. Juniors and seniors who have an ACC placeholder in their schedule 2nd semester or upperclassmen interested in taking an ACC class 2nd semester, please communicate with your school counselor. School counselors need to ensure you have met the requirements for your desired ACC pathway, submitted a CCP (ACC) application, and registered for the desired ACC course with your CCP advisor that does not conflict with your required Williams courses.

  6. Check out the Brick Paver Fundraiser information under the Parent Organizations area of the school website. PTSO’s Brick Paver Fundraiser is a lasting way to cement your legacy in the foundation of the Williams High School community. Click here for more information

  7. The Alamance Burlington Board of Education adopted a new exam exemption policy regarding teacher-made final exams. The text of this policy is listed below.

High school students must take all end-of-course (EOC) tests and Career and Technical Education State Assessments (CTE Post-Assessments) required by the State Board of Education.  In high school courses for which there is not a state-required final exam, the teacher shall administer a final exam that is a valid reflection of the student’s mastery of course content.  For all students, including English Learner students in their first year in a U.S. school and students following the Occupational Course of Study Pathway, the results of EOC tests, CTE Post-Assessments, and other final exams will count as 20 percent of a student’s final grade in the high school course.  However, the results of such assessments will not factor into a student’s final grade in a course during the initial implementation year of a new assessment for that course where scores are not immediately available due to standard setting.  Further, CTE students who earn a credential that is approved under Department of Public Instruction guidelines as evidence of technical skill attainment will not be required to take the CTE Post-Assessment in the course.

High school students may be exempt from a final exam that is not state required if the student meets the criteria below.

  • a grade of “A” and no more than five (5) absences during the semester

  • a grade of “B” and no more than four (4) absences during the semester

  • A grade of “C” and no more than three (3) absences during the semester

Any absences (lawful or unlawful) count toward the limit for exam exemption except school-sponsored field trips, school-approved activities, religious holidays, and district-approved medical hardship waivers.

The goal of this policy is to reinforce the importance of instructional time during the school day. All students shall be permitted the opportunity to take the examination, even if they are eligible for the examination exemption. If a student decides to take the examination then the examination grade will count as 20% of their final grade for the course.

Exempted students that choose not to take the examination will determine their final course grade by averaging their two quarter grades equally.

Today, tomorrow, and every day is a great day to be a Bulldog!

Onward Bulldogs!
