In a significant decision, the Alamance County Commissioners agreed tonight to provide the requested funds to the Alamance-Burlington School System to help balance its budget without a major reduction in force or the elimination of key programs within the District.

Superintendent Dr. Dain Butler spoke at length before the commissioners answering questions. ABSS Board members Ryan Bowden and Dan Ingle, and ABSS families also spoke on behalf of the District.

The funding allows ABSS to fund the following priorities:

Teacher Supplement Increase Total: $1,300,000

Athletic Trainers at Each High School Total: $514,965

Coaching Supplement Stipend Increase Total: $180,000

“It’s been a long road and I’m glad we can finally turn the page on this budget year.  It’s a responsible choice to get the school system what it needs,” said Craig Turner, Commissioner.

The funding will enable ABSS to continue providing exceptional educational opportunities, maintain the existing level of staffing, and ensure vital programs remain intact.

“I want to thank the school board for their willingness to stand up for what you believe in,” said Bill Lashley, Commissioner.

ABSS Superintendent Dr. Dain Butler, expressed his gratitude stating, "We are extremely grateful to the Alamance County Commissioners for their support.  We appreciate their dedication to the success of our students."
