The Alamance-Burlington Board of Education and Dr. Butler announced the appointment of eight new Assistant Principals to fill recent vacancies.  Each new Assistant Principal brings a wealth of experience, expertise, and a passion for education to their respective roles.  

Longtime ABSS teacher and former Exceptional Children Program Specialist, April Brantley, has been named the new AP at Eastern High School.  

The current Literacy Coach at Pleasant Grove Elementary, Heather Ellingworth, will become the new AP at Grove Park Elementary.  

Former Cummings High School teacher and Broadview Middle School Behavioral Coach, Alphonso Hopkins, is stepping up to become the new Assistant Principal at Graham Middle School.  

Do’Trell Allen will join the team at Broadview Middle as one of the new Assistant Principals.  Allen most recently worked in Guilford County Schools.  

The Instructional Specialist at Williams High School, Imani Small will assume the new role as AP at Williams. 

James Moore has been appointed as one the new Assistant Principals at Southern High School.  He most recently served as an AP in Guildford County at both Dudley High School and Southern Guilford Middle.  

Syeda Smith-Williams is no stranger to ABSS, having served on staff at both Cummings High School and Eastlawn Elementary.  Smith-Williams will be joining the leadership team at Graham High.  

Shamonna Thomas, currently serving as the Instructional Specialist at Eastern Alamance High School, will be transitioning to Cummings High School to take on the role of Assistant Principal.

“Many of these newly appointed individuals are exceptional leaders who have excelled within our District and are now assuming key administrative positions.  It's a testament to our commitment to promoting from within and valuing our dedicated employees,” said Dr. Dain Butler, Superintendent.  

They will assume their new roles effective August 1, 2023.
