The Alamance-Burlington School System is pleased to announce the appointment of Darylanne Towery as the new Assistant Principal of Southeast Alamance High School, effective July 30th. Currently serving as a 5th Grade Teacher at Smith Elementary in ABSS, Towery brings extensive leadership experience to her new role. She holds a Bachelor's degree from UNC-Greensboro, a Master of School Administration from UNC-Wilmington, and is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership at UNCG.
Towery began her career with ABSS in 2014 as an instructional assistant before transitioning to classroom teaching. She later spent seven years in Lenoir County Public Schools, where she was named the 2022 Lenoir County Teacher of the Year and secured a $19,000 NC GO Grant for student support initiatives. Her leadership roles included MTSS Co-Chair, School Improvement Team Chair, and mentor for beginning teachers. She was also selected by former State Superintendent Catherine Truitt to serve on the North Carolina Teacher Council Cohort 1.
"With a strong background in differentiated instruction, I'm committed to meeting students where they are and helping each one grow," Towery said. "I'm so excited to join the Southeast Alamance High School family—a community that aims high and grows together—and I can't wait to be part of that journey with our students, staff, and families."
Towery designed and implemented the innovative Rise Up mentorship program, pairing elementary students needing additional support in social-emotional learning with local high school mentors. Her expertise in data analysis, curriculum development, and instructional leadership will be valuable assets to Southeast Alamance High School as she works to support student achievement and growth.
Principal Eric Yarborough expressed his enthusiasm about the appointment: "I am excited to welcome Mrs. Towery to the Southeast Family." When not focused on educational excellence, Towery enjoys spending time with her husband and their two children, who are currently enrolled in ABSS schools. She will begin her official duties on July 30th but will be visiting throughout the summer to prepare for her new role.
