Attention parents and students! We're hosting an information session about NC Governor's School 2026 on Monday, October 13th at 5:30 PM at the ABSS Central Office Professional Library on Vaughn Road in Burlington.
If you haven't heard of Governor's School, it's an amazing opportunity. It's actually the oldest statewide summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students in the entire nation. The program runs from mid-June to mid-July and is primarily for rising seniors, though rising juniors can apply in selected performing and visual arts areas.
This is a chance for academically motivated students to dive deep into advanced coursework, connect with brilliant peers from across North Carolina, and get a taste of college-level learning in a residential setting. It's truly a transformative experience for students who are selected.
If your student might be interested, definitely plan to attend the information session. You'll learn all about the application process, what the program entails, and get your questions answered. For more details before the session, reach out to your school counselor:

Big congratulations to these exceptional ABSS musicians who showcased their skills at the 2025 Western Region Orchestra in Boone last weekend! Senior viola player Aslynn West from Walter M. Williams High School and junior trumpet player Christian Boudrealt from Western Alamance High School participated in the Honors Orchestra under Dr. Alexandra Dee's direction from Appalachian State University. Freshman bass player Michael-Andres Cruz from Williams not only performed in the Repertory Orchestra but earned 1st chair in his section! 🎵
The Repertory Orchestra was conducted by Williams' own Orchestra Director, Veronica Biscocho! North Carolina's orchestra program divides the state into eastern and western regions, each hosting special events featuring guest clinicians from across the country. So proud of our musical stars! 🌟
