Elon Elementary students were treated to a toe-tapping performance today thanks to the talented Western Alamance High School Jazz Band! 🎷🥁 The musicians played jazzy renditions of holiday classics that had the whole gym clapping and singing along. 👏 Band director Michael Jefferson introduced the high schoolers and their instruments, giving the Elon students an idea of each one's role and sound. Perhaps we'll see some of them take up the saxophone, trumpet, trombone, or other instruments when they reach middle school! 🎺 We're grateful to Mr. Jefferson and the WA Jazz Band for the fantastic performance! 🎄❤️

All aboard! 🚂🎅❄️ Hillcrest Elementary was transformed into a wintry wonderland this week as students took a magical round trip to the North Pole via The Polar Express. After getting their golden ticket stamped, they boarded the "train" in the gym and listened as Media Specialist Ms. Mann read the classic story while enjoying hot cocoa and cookies. 🍪🥤The hardworking staff went above and beyond to create decorations that really enhanced the experience. This will be a day the students won't forget!

Western High School students shone brightly today by putting together a festive holiday brunch, from concept to clean-up. Students from Foods 1 & 2, Interior Design, Adaptive Curriculum, and Western's Chorus demonstrated phenomenal teamwork in planning and executing every detail of the event. Several ABSS Board of Education members, administrators, and Central Services staff attended. The Foods students prepared multiple made-from-scratch dishes complete with holiday place settings. Each student played their part in delivering an incredible meal and event. Their talent, dedication and collaboration on full display made us so proud! Events like these truly showcase the best of our students! 🤩

'Tis the season for snowmen! ⛄️ This morning, our Alamance Burlington Early College at ACC students came to Alexander Wilson Elementary to spread some holiday cheer. These high schoolers embraced their inner teacher as they read stories aloud and helped our younger students with their snowman crafts. Both the little listeners and the teen teachers enjoyed the festive visit!

This year, South Graham staff Kim Barger and Randy Milton started an Acts of Kindness challenge to promote compassion and positive behavior. Students earn "kindness points" for good deeds toward fun celebrations like glow parties and video game tournaments while bonding over stories of making someone's day brighter. Recently, 36 students cashed in their kindness points to attend these uplifting events after filling their punch cards with acts of caring. Equipped with these punch cards at the start of the year, students can visually track the positive impact they are making through good deeds around school. We love to see these junior heroes "leveling up" their kindness and support for one another! #StudentCenteredFutureFocused

Today, the Student Council Leadership Team from Southern Alamance High School organized an uplifting community service project at the Twin Lakes Retirement Community. Twenty-six students divided into teams to spread holiday cheer to the senior residents. They led festive crafts and games that prompted laughter and great conversation. Later, they caroled together through the halls and into the common areas with songs. The students carried themselves with sincere attitudes, respectful composure, and eagerness to connect. Shout out to Mrs. Rasa for organizing the trip! #StudentCenteredFutureFocused #ABSSCommunity

After over 25 years of dedicated service, we are bidding farewell to Robin Bowers, our Director of CTE. Robin has been part of the Alamance-Burlington School System since 1996, most recently overseeing and advancing our exceptional career and technical education programs. She has been instrumental in promoting and expanding the CTE pathways we offer students, always pushing for new courses that prepare our learners for in-demand careers. Robin has worked hand-in-hand with teachers across the district to develop programs, secure funding, and ensure students have access to hands-on facilities and equipment. Her passion and commitment to CTE has helped countless students gain skills and industry credentials to launch meaningful careers. While we are sad to see her go, we congratulate Robin on her new role as CTE Regional Consultant for the Southwest Region of North Carolina. She will now have the opportunity to shape CTE programs and support educators across the state. We are grateful for Robin’s dedicated leadership and service to ABSS over the years. Best of luck in your new endeavor, Robin!

Andrews Elementary fourth-graders received an exciting visit from City of Burlington Councilmember Dejuana Bigelow today! As the students learn about local government in social studies, Councilmember Bigelow generously took time to discuss her position and insights into how city leadership represents citizens’ interests. The thoughtful students posed excellent questions, showing their curiosity and drive to participate in the place they call home. We sincerely thank Councilmember Bigelow for meeting with our students to provide inspiration and knowledge about local leadership roles! #ABSSCommunity #StudentCenteredFutureFocused

Congratulations to our fifth graders! DARE graduations have begun across the district. The DARE program plays a vital role in empowering students to make safe and healthy decisions. By partnering with local police departments, we can provide impactful lessons that give students the knowledge and confidence to avoid drugs and violence. We are deeply grateful for this cooperative program and all those involved.
