🏈 Last night was a monumental occasion for Southeast Alamance High School as they hosted their very first home football game against EAHS!
The coin toss was conducted by Superintendent Dr. Butler. An unforgettable moment for the school and community. 📷Pennington/Ron King

Superintendent Dr. Butler, Board Chair Sandy Ellington-Graves, and Public Information Officer Les Atkins were guests on WBAG radio today. They discussed several ABSS initiatives, including the opening of the new high school, our telecommunication and welding CTE programs, and our mental health grant to provide additional student services this coming year. They also addressed the mold situation and the upcoming meeting with County Commissioners on Monday. The interview covered many positive developments in ABSS, while also acknowledging challenges transparently. Our goal is to keep the community informed.

Congratulations to Hugh M. Cummings High School senior Taylor Grant for receiving an academic honor from the College Board's National African American Recognition Program! We are so grateful to #ABSSCommunity leaders like Labcorp and Cone Health for their contributions to the Alamance Chamber Classroom Collection campaign! Over 32,000 school supplies are ready for our students! 🎒🤩

The music was up and the grill was hot over at The Venue Apartments today! 🌭 Broadview Middle School staff invited families out for refreshments, free school supplies, and curriculum materials as part of their Back to School Bash. 💙 #StudentCenteredFutureFocused

Take a look behind the cameras! 📹 Public Information Officer Les Atkins went on Fox 8 this morning with Cindy Farmer to share some back-to-school updates, a reminder about buses on the roads, and some things to look forward to this year! #StudentCenteredFutureFocused

Did you know that missing 20 minutes a day adds up to over 2.5 weeks of missed instruction each year? In the first weeks of school, students learn expectations and build peer and staff connections. Every minute matters! Start building those back-to-school routines. 📚⏰ #ABSSBacktoSchool #EveryMinuteMatters | https://youtu.be/ZbB2Nvt2pag
Great to see our teachers' smiling faces as they prep for back to school next Monday! Classrooms are being decorated and lessons planned. We're ready to kick off a great new school year! #ABSSFirstDay

Our Director of Athletics, George Robinson, dedicated his career to supporting student achievement on and off the field. His leadership grew ABSS sports and impacted many lives. Congrats, George, on your retirement, and thank you!

The expertise of athletic trainers helps keep student-athletes healthy, safe, and at the top of their game. We have partnered with Stewart Physical Therapy to provide ATs at all our high schools. Apply on their website: https://bit.ly/abssathletictrainers

The Dragons 🐉 are getting fired up for #ABSSBacktoSchool. 🔥 It was a beautiful weekend for the Alamance Virtual School Back to School bash! Many families came out to meet and greet the staff, learn more about clubs and other opportunities, and connect with one another. Thanks to Maverick Radio and Sunset Slush of Alamance County for providing food and refreshments and the AVS PTO for the support! 🌭🧊

The superstars have arrived. Our teachers are back and it's time to rock n' roll! 🤘 Behind the scenes of #ABSSBacktoSchool is thoughtful planning, preparation, and teamwork to create an amazing experience for students. #StudentCenteredFutureFocused

Our Pre-K teachers learned a "skittle" 🍬 bit about each other during their first workday back and heard inspiring words from April Ford, Director of Child Development and Early Education. She emphasized their incredible impact nurturing our youngest learners and instilling foundational skills that can truly change lives. Pre-K sets the stage for lifelong success by launching students' educational journeys in the most formative years! 🚀 #ABSSPreK #ABSSBacktoSchool

Join us in welcoming our newest teachers - they’re homegrown! Give it up for these former students and ABSS grads, coming back to educate the next generation. 👏 #StudentCenteredFutureFocused

At orientation, Superintendent Dr. Butler thanked our new teachers for choosing ABSS. Many are ABSS grads returning to teach the next generation! ❤️ He reminded them they will be valued and supported. Although we're a large district, there's a caring culture of support from top to bottom. Each new teacher is teamed with a mentor for three years! 🤝 #StudentCenteredFutureFocused

Our amazing Principal of the Year, Julie Hancock, inspired new teachers at orientation: be real with students, build relationships & see their potential - help them recognize it too! When students feel seen & valued, the magic happens! 🔮 #StudentCenteredFutureFocused

Our phenomenal Teacher of the Year, Ashley West, spoke to our new teachers at orientation. She shared the wisdom she wished she had as a first-year teacher. Her advice: use all the resources available and lean on your mentors! Ask questions, get guidance, and know we got your back! 💯 #StudentCenteredFutureFocused

The generosity of our community has shone brightly today! 🤩 Thousands of school supplies are now ready for ABSS classrooms thanks to the Alamance Chamber Classroom Collection campaign. Massive thanks to Labcorp, Rotary of Alamance, and ALL who contributed! 🙏🍎✏️📚 #ABSSCommunity

ABSS Alert: We recently became aware of a concerning new app called Saturn. This app allows students to upload their school schedules and get matched into "classes" with other users who have classes at the same times. To sign up, students just need to provide a cell phone number, Snapchat username, or school email address. This means anyone can pretend to be a student and join classes at any school.
This app's setup makes it dangerously easy for predators to access minors' personal information. We are taking steps to block it on our school network. However, we need parents/guardians to discourage usage at home as well.
Please discuss these dangers with your student so we can work together to keep them safe. Safety is always our number one priority. Thank you for your immediate attention to this pressing issue.
