Our 4th and 5th graders got to experience something really special today at the Williams High School auditorium! The North Carolina Symphony put on a performance called "What Makes Music, Music?" and took them on a musical adventure. 🎼✨ The talented musicians played pieces by composers like Saint-Saens, Mozart, Beach, Joplin, and Offenbach. With each piece, they highlighted different aspects of music - texture, melody, tempo, form, and rhythm. The students were challenged to identify and hear those elements in action! It was more than just listening, though. The students were engaged throughout, clapping and singing right along with the music. At the end, you could hear their thunderous cheers filling the room as they showed appreciation for the symphony's awesome performance. Huge thanks to the NC Symphony for bringing their incredible talent to ABSS today. Our students were educated and entertained - an A+ experience for sure! 🎶🎻🥳 #abssarts #studentcenteredfuturefocused #absscommunity

Jonathan Paylor, the talented Freshman running back from NC State University 🐺, returned to his ABSS roots this #ReadAcrossAmerica Week, bringing smiles and inspiration to students at his former elementary school, Eastlawn Elementary. Despite his impressive accolades - ranked No. 10 player at the RB position in the nation and No. 5 in North Carolina by 247Sports, and over 3,000 all-purpose yards at Cummings High - Paylor read to a class, signed autographs, and even good-naturedly accepted arm-wrestling challenges from the starstruck kids. 💪🏾 His actions send the powerful message that with hard work, perseverance, and a humble spirit, great heights can be achieved while still giving back to the community that shaped you. ABSS takes immense pride in Jonathan Paylor! Go Pack! 🐺

We have an update on the Spring Break travels of our ABSS Early College at ACC students! 🇮🇹 🇩🇪 🏛️ Over the past week, they have been embarking on an educational journey through the historic sites and cultural wonders of Italy and Germany. From the grand Colosseum and Roman Forum to the breathtaking Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica, our students are experiencing these world-famous landmarks and works of art firsthand in a way that vividly brings their classroom lessons alive. 🕯️This trip also provides moments of reflection, as our students pay respect at Dachau and connect their Holocaust studies to the powerful realities of the past. Coupled with visits to a Bavarian castle and the streets of Romeo and Juliet, it is a wonderful opportunity to broaden their global perspectives. 📷 We can see them here in front of St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City and the Colosseum in Rome - memories to cherish for a lifetime! Safe travels, adventurers!

South Graham Elementary continued to celebrate acts of kindness with two exciting events this week. First, 49 students who completed their punch cards enjoyed a fantastic Skating Party at Roll-a-Bout. 🛼 Then, it was time to hit the track as 15 students celebrated with some friendly racing competition in Mario Kart. Officer Edwards joined in, though he was hit by a few green shells and put back in 6th place! 🎮 These events showcased our students' dedication to making a positive impact through their acts of kindness. Way to go!

Shedding new light 💡 on history! During their specials time with Ms. House, the 4th-grade students at Elon Elementary learned about the history of the North Carolina coast, the ⚓️ Graveyard of the Atlantic, and the importance of lighthouses in the 1700s and 1800s. To showcase their knowledge, they created a digital timeline using Google Drawings, a slideshow presentation, a Google Earth 🌍 mapping project, and handcrafted model lighthouses. The students are excited to exhibit their impressive creations, which demonstrate their deep understanding of this fascinating era in coastal history. #StudentCenteredFutureFocused
