
Eastlawn Elementary kicked off their Friday morning with a vibrant Cultural Parade! Students proudly displayed their family's cultural heritage, wearing traditional clothes and carrying flags from countries around the world. 🌍
The parade highlighted the diversity of Eastlawn's student body and embraced students of all backgrounds. Families turned out in large numbers to support their children and experience the rich cultural traditions on display!









Haw River Elementary School celebrated cultures and traditions from around the world with its own Cultural Parade this afternoon. 🎉 The parade featured students proudly holding flags representing Spanish-speaking nations. Classes walked the sidewalk showing off flags and facts while others cheered! It was a vibrant display of diversity and a great way to start the weekend. Great work to all the students and staff for this fantastic event!

Students and staff at Western Alamance High gathered in the Media Center today for a celebration of #HispanicHeritageMonth! 🎉 Superintendent Dr. Butler attended the event to learn more about Hispanic heritage and traditions represented within our diverse student body. ABSS Alert: Bus 342 from B. Everett Jordan was involved in an accident this morning. According to the Sheriff's office, the bus hit a building off Highway 87 near Judge Sharpe Road. Seven students are being treated for injuries.

Students at Eastlawn Elementary received a special visit today from firefighters at the Burlington Fire Department. 🚒 They spoke to the kids about how they work to fight fires and keep our community safe. A highlight of the visit was when the firefighters showed off their protective gear, including their fire-resistant suits, helmets, masks, and breathing equipment. While it may look big and scary to little eyes, the firefighters explained how each piece has an important purpose in protecting them from smoke, fire, and falling objects. 🔥 #ABSSCommunity

Students will get to learn about all of the high school specialty programs offered throughout ABSS. As part of a their #HispanicHeritageMonth activities, Ms. Peterson's students have been exploring the culture of Spanish-speaking nations and discovering the incredible diversity of Hispanic heritage. ¡Vamos de fiesta! 💃🏽 The Alexander Wilson Latin Fest is tonight at 7pm and open to the #ABSSCommunity! This week, fourth-grade students from B. Everett Jordan, Highland, and Haw River Elementary are on the trails, thanks to Haw River Assembly. They have an opportunity to observe insects, birds, many species of plant life, and anything else that happens to be along the trail or riverbanks. Local experts lead groups in pottery, art, lessons on runoff and river ecosystems, identifying animals by their characteristics, and much more. The 2024 Student Advisory Group started a new chapter of student advocacy with its first meeting with Dr. Butler! This group of student leaders will be meeting regularly to provide student perspectives and input on issues that impact campus life. Congratulations to Karen Rhea, math teacher for Math 3 and AP Calculus at Western Alamance High School. She is the winner of the ABSS Secondary Math Outstanding Educator Award for the 2023-2024 school year. 🌟 The North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics gives each district's outstanding educator a one-year membership, a personalized award, and recognition at their state conference in the fall. Karen has led district professional development through her work as a curriculum writer, math leader, and was also Western High's Teacher of the Year last school year and a finalist for the ABSS Teacher of the Year Award. 👏


This morning, Agri-Business Committee🌳 members and volunteers assembled hundreds of gift bags for the upcoming Farm-to-Table event at Cedarock Park next week! 🚜 We have over 20 classes and 500 students that will be attending! #ABSSCommunity
