The Hugh M. Cummings High School Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration was a huge success! Last Friday, their Media Center was filled with vibrant colors, culture, and information! Students showcased projects on famous Hispanic figures, while the Chika Cavs 💃 wowed participants with traditional dance performances. Visitors enjoyed fun games and many proudly displayed their Hispanic heritage through colorful face-painting of flags 🎨. Classes rotated in throughout the day, ensuring everyone had a chance to participate and learn! A big thank you to the Cummings World Languages/ESL department for organizing this amazing event, and to everyone who participated.

Touchdown for Good Behavior at Eastlawn Elementary! Today, some exceptional students got a taste of the big leagues as Elon University football players and Coach Baranik brought the excitement of college football to our campus. These young champions, who earned this special day through their excellent behavior, rotated through catching drills, kicking practice, and tackling techniques. To cap off the day, our Phoenix guests shared words of wisdom, gave the kids an up-close look at real college football gear, and celebrated our students' hard work both on and off the field. Newlin Elementary celebrated #HispanicHeritageMonth2024 in style! The school community came together for a vibrant event featuring spectacular performances by the Dream Center and Huepa dancers. Students enjoyed a variety of engaging activity stations, including papel picado crafts, Bingo en español, a special "How to Make Paletas" storytime - complete with their own paletas to enjoy outside, a popcorn station, and a Macarena dance party in the gym. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to experience the rich traditions, tasty treats, and joyful music of Hispanic culture. A special thank you to the Williams High School students who assisted our students throughout the day, enhancing the experience for all. We're grateful to everyone who participated and made this celebration of our diverse #ABSSCommunuty so memorable!

We are excited to share that Annie Goldberg, school counselor of Broadview Middle School, recently earned the ASCA Certified School Counselor (ACSC) recognition, one of only 57 school counselors nationwide. The ACSC designation recognizes school counselors who are committed to the highest levels of professionalism, ethical practice and continuing professional development in their school counseling practice.
