WAMS Weekly Update - 5/11/25

May 11, 2025

Good afternoon Western Alamance Middle School families, this is Principal Aaron Acome.

I want to take a moment to recognize and honor all the incredible mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures in our school community. Your love, support, and dedication help shape the hearts and minds of our students every single day. Wishing you a wonderful and restful Mother’s Day!

I would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our PTO and our families for the outpouring of support during Teacher Appreciation Week last week. From the thoughtful treats, snacks, and meals to the kind words and gestures, our staff felt truly celebrated and valued. Your generosity and partnership mean so much, and we are grateful to be part of such a supportive school community.  A special thank you to Ms. Kasserman and Ms. Summers for organizing this outpouring of support.

We want to make you aware of a concerning trend involving the misuse of school-issued Chromebooks. The district has received reports from multiple schools of students intentionally mishandling devices, in some cases influenced by harmful social media challenges that encourage damaging the equipment.

These actions are extremely dangerous and can lead to:

  • Devices emitting smoke or catching fire

  • Damage to electrical outlets or charging equipment

  • Risk of electric shock

  • Serious injury

To help ensure student safety and preserve school resources, we ask for your support in the following ways:

  • Talk with your child about the dangers of participating in these trends and the risks associated with misusing technology.

  • Discuss the serious consequences of damaging school property, both in terms of safety and school discipline.

  • Monitor your child’s Chromebook use, including how, when, and where it is being used at home and school.

Please know that any incidents involving the intentional misuse of technology will be addressed in accordance with the ABSS Technology Responsible Use Policy and the Student Code of Conduct.

We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing the importance of safe and responsible technology use. Together, we can ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.

PTO: Thanks so much to everyone who helped make teacher appreciation week a success!!
