WAMS Weekly Update - 5/18/25

May 18, 2025

Good afternoon Western Alamance Middle School families, this is Principal Aaron Acome.

As we near the end of the school year and approach EOG testing, it's more important than ever that our students remain focused, engaged, and committed to finishing strong.

Please also note that Monday, May 26th is Memorial Day. There will be no school for students or staff as we take time to honor and remember the men and women who have given their lives in service to our country.

End-of-Grade Assessment Schedule: The North Carolina End-of-Grade (EOG) Tests are designed to measure student performance on the goals, objectives, and grade-level competencies specified in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. It is extremely important that your student is at school and on-time for their EOGs! ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY.  The EOGs will be administered on the following days:

Tuesday May 27th, Math EOG

Wednesday May 28th. ELA EOG

Thursday May 29th, 8th Grade Science EOC

Please ensure that your student’s Chromebook is fully charged and ready each day for EOG testing. Students who arrive with uncharged devices will be required to take their EOGs on designated make-up days.

All EOGs must be completed prior to participating in any end-of-year activities scheduled for the week of June 2.

From the Nurse: All students enrolled in the NC Public School System and entering the 7th grade are required to receive the Tdap & Meningococcal Vaccines.  Please schedule your vaccine appointment with your pediatrician or the Alamance County Health Department.  Once received, be sure to send an updated immunization record to school!  If you are not sure if your child has received the required immunizations, please contact your doctor’s office.  If these are not received by the 30th day of the 2025-2026 School year, your child will be excluded from school!  If you have questions or need help with an appointment, please contact Nurse Benson.

If your student had medication at school this school year. This medication will need to be picked up within 2 weeks of the last day of school. If medication is not picked up within that time frame, it will be discarded. We are not able to send medications home with your student.

Chromebooks: We want to make you aware of a concerning trend involving the misuse of school-issued Chromebooks. The district has received reports from multiple schools of students intentionally mishandling devices, in some cases influenced by harmful social media challenges that encourage damaging the equipment.

These actions are extremely dangerous and can lead to:

  • Devices emitting smoke or catching fire

  • Damage to electrical outlets or charging equipment

  • Risk of electric shock

  • Serious injury

To help ensure student safety and preserve school resources, we ask for your support in the following ways:

  • Talk with your child about the dangers of participating in these trends and the risks associated with misusing technology.

  • Discuss the serious consequences of damaging school property, both in terms of safety and school discipline.

  • Monitor your child’s Chromebook use, including how, when, and where it is being used at home and school.

Please know that any incidents involving the intentional misuse of technology will be addressed in accordance with the ABSS Technology Responsible Use Policy and the Student Code of Conduct.

We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing the importance of safe and responsible technology use. Together, we can ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.
