Good afternoon Western Alamance Middle School families,
This week, we take time to reflect on the importance of Veterans Day, a day to honor and express our gratitude to the men and women who have served our country with courage and dedication. To all veterans in our Western community, thank you for your service and sacrifice.
As a reminder, Tuesday, November 11th, is a holiday, and there will be no school for students or staff.
PTO: The PTO will be selling Gobble Grams during homeroom and some lunch periods. Order forms were also sent home with report cards. One card per order form. Additional forms are located in the front office. Cards are $1 and come with a cute plastic turkey or a bracelet. Orders are due Wednesday, November 19. Cards will be delivered during homeroom on Friday, November 21. We accept Cash, Venmo, & Check. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to fully fund the book request for the library. We are going to continue to give back to WAMS where we can. We would love to purchase new folding chairs with a rack system for assemblies etc. We are so proud to be a part of such an amazing community. Please follow us on social media for updates!
NC Check Ins:
NC Check-Ins will begin this Wednesday, November 12th WAMS will administer the ELA NC Check-In to all 6th - 8th grade students Wednesday, November 12th. Thursday, November 13th, 8th Grade Science will take the NC Check-in. Check-Ins are interim assessments aligned to North Carolina grade-level content standards developed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). The main purpose of NC Check-Ins is to provide students, teachers, and parents with immediate data and a reliable estimate of students’ current performance on the selected content standards. It is extremely important that your student arrives at school on time with a fully charged computer Wednesday and Thursday to ensure that our test administration is not interrupted.
High School Speciality Program Meeting: Families of 8th grade students are invited to learn about the ABSS High School Speciality Programs this Monday, November 10th at 6:00 pm in our Media Center. Representatives from the Alamance Burlington Early College, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, and the PreCollegiate Academy will present information and answer questions that you might have about each option for high school.
Band: Band t-shirts are available for order until this Thursday, November 13th. Order forms were sent home with students last week. Parents of students in band, please check your email if you need an extra copy of the order form. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mr. Babb

To be eligible to try out for a fall sport, students must meet the following requirements:
Passed all classes in the first quarter.
Met behaviour standards.
Have a current physical and all required forms uploaded and approved in DragonFly Max

Free and Reduced Lunch Application: Beginning Tuesday 10/7, if students have not submitted an application for this year 2025-2026, they will revert back to a full pay status.
Breakfast and lunch are not universally free for all students. If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you will either need to put money on their online account or you will need to secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the required form. Paper forms are available in the WAMS main office or you can fill it out online. Please make sure that you have been approved for free or reduced lunch or that your child has lunch money in their account.
Infinite Campus: As you are aware, ABSS transitioned from PowerSchool to a new student information system, Infinite Campus (IC), over the summer months. This new platform will now be used to access student schedules, grades, attendance, and more. On Monday, August 4, parents/guardians will receive a message from ABSS with instructions on how to create their Infinite Campus Parent Portal account.
