WAMS Weekly Update - 1/4/26

January 4, 2026

Good afternoon Western Alamance Middle School families,

I hope you had a restful and enjoyable winter break. With just two weeks left in the second quarter, this is a crucial time to check your child’s progress. We encourage families to log into Infinite Campus  to review grades and have meaningful conversations with your student about any outstanding assignments that need to be completed. Please remind your student to check with their teachers to confirm the final day for submitting assignments for this grading period.

As we return from break, we also ask all students and families to revisit our academic and behavior expectations to help us have a smooth and productive transition back to school. Your continued support and partnership play a vital role in helping all students succeed, and we greatly appreciate your efforts to ensure that assignments are submitted on time.

Let’s start the new year strong and make these final weeks of the quarter count!

Cultural Arts: Congratulations to these 4 art students: Micah Agner, Grace Brown, Jasmarie Banda, and Javi Soto-Cruz for their artwork being picked to be included in Blick's Winter Celebrating Art Contest. Their artwork will be published in an art anthology showcasing student art from across the United States.

Mrs. Wheeler and her students should feel honored as only the top 50% of the entries submitted from across the USA are invited to be published! Without this publication, the entries that reflect the unique creativity and talent of these artists would be lost forever.

PTO: Thank you for your continued support of the PTO. The teachers really felt the love Friday with the duty free lunch and all of the delicious soups, salads, & breadsticks.

AYLA is selling Merry Messages until December 18. Students get a small gift with each message. Order forms were sent home with students last week. We also have order forms in the front office.  You can pay via Venmo, check or cash. Please turn in to their homeroom teacher.

Come out and support our staff with our second annual Faculty/Staff basketball game on January 16. Admission is $5. Students can stay after school and cheer on their peers. Concessions will be for sale. All proceeds go to purchase folding chairs for our assemblies. We accept Venmo, checks, & cash.  Please see the sign-up genius link below to help make this event a success.

Several of you have asked what are some of the teachers favorite things--we have a link below

Free and Reduced Lunch Application: Beginning Tuesday 10/7, if students have not submitted an application for this year 2025-2026, they will revert back to a full pay status.

Breakfast and lunch are not universally free for all students. If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you will either need to put money on their online account or you will need to secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the required form. Paper forms are available in the WAMS main office or you can fill it out online. Please make sure that you have been approved for free or reduced lunch or that your child has lunch money in their account.

Infinite Campus: As you are aware, ABSS transitioned from PowerSchool to a new student information system, Infinite Campus (IC), over the summer months. This new platform will now be used to access student schedules, grades, attendance, and more. On Monday, August 4, parents/guardians will receive a message from ABSS with instructions on how to create their Infinite Campus Parent Portal account. Please be sure to check your email to get started.
