WAMS Families,
Due to winter weather conditions, ABSS will continue Remote Learning on Tuesday January 27th, 2026. Please review the information below carefully to ensure your student is prepared and understands expectations during our remote learning days.
Please review these two important documents:
What Students Should Expect During Remote Learning
Complete all asynchronous assignments provided by their teachers.
Access and complete assignments posted in Canvas (and/or hard-copy materials if provided).
Use their school email to communicate with teachers and/or attend optional office hours if they need help or have questions.
All assignments given on remote learning days may count toward student grades.
Teacher Support & Office Hours
Teachers will hold office hours during their regularly scheduled blocks.
The WAMS Remote Learning Office Hours Schedule is linked here: WAMS Remote Learning Office Hours
Each teacher’s Google Meet link for office hours will be posted in the announcement section on their individual Canvas course pages.
Assignments, announcements, and learning materials will be located in Canvas.
Families should check Canvas daily for updates and communication from teachers. Email your teacher directly if you have any questions.
Attendance:
Students will be marked as present once they have completed and turned in the assigned asynchronous work. Asynchronous work may be turned in up to 5- school days, or the end of the quarter (whichever occurs first), after returning to school.
How Families Can Support Students
Ensure your child has access to Canvas and any hard copies of materials sent home.
Help your child establish a daily routine for completing assignments.
Encourage your child to attend office hours or email teachers if support is needed.
Computer Support
If you use your ABSS Chromebook at home or anywhere outside of school, you may be asked to sign in the first time. This is called zScaler, and it helps keep the internet safe. When prompted, enter your full ABSS email address (not just your username).
Example: jsmith123@students.abss.k12.nc.us (use your own email address) If it doesn’t work, carefully check that everything after the @ symbol is typed correctly.
You should only have to do this once for each new Wi-Fi network you use.
View this page for a screenshot of what you might see: How to log into zscaler at home
Thank you for your flexibility and continued partnership as we prioritize student learning and safety. Please continue to monitor communication from the school and your child’s Canvas courses for updates.
If you have questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Stay Safe
Aaron Acome
