WAMS Weekly Update - 2/1/26

March 1, 2026

Good afternoon Western Alamance Middle School families,

I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. The 3rd Quarter ends March 18th.  Please take a moment to log into Infinite Campus to review grades and have meaningful conversations with your student about any outstanding assignments that need to be completed.

EOG/EOC Retesting Opportunity: Beginning the 2025-2026 school year, students who score Not Proficient on an End-of-Grade (EOG) and/or End-of-Course (EOC) assessment are eligible for one retest opportunity per subject each school year. Retesting provides students an additional opportunity to demonstrate academic growth and progress. For EOC courses, the highest score earned will count as the exam grade.

In order for a student to retake an exam, parent/guardian consent is required. Please complete the Retesting Consent Form linked below to grant permission for your child to participate in retesting if needed. Families will be contacted after exam results are received if their child scores Not Proficient and is eligible for a retest opportunity.

Statewide Tornado Drill - March 4: Western Alamance Middle School will participate in the Annual Statewide Tornado Drill on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. This drill is conducted in partnership with State Emergency Management and the National Weather Service to help ensure that students and staff are prepared in the event of severe weather. The purpose of this drill is to strengthen our preparedness and ensure everyone understands the steps needed to stay safe during severe weather events. Practicing these procedures is an important part of maintaining a safe school environment for all students and staff.

AYLA: Western Middle School is excited to announce that the Alamance Youth Leadership Academy (AYLA) is now accepting applications for new members from our rising 7th-grade class!

What is AYLA? AYLA is a student-led organization at Western Middle that focuses on discovering leadership opportunities and cultivating the essential skills students need to lead with integrity and confidence. It is a fantastic way for students to become more involved in their school community and grow alongside their peers.

Application Requirements: To be considered for membership, interested students must submit a completed application packet. A full application includes:

  • Recommendation: Letter from a teacher or administrator.

  • Personal Voice: Two written responses (prompts are included in the application).

Important Dates: All applications must be submitted on or before Friday, March 6th, 2026. Students can turn their completed forms into:

  • An AYLA Student Member

  • An AYLA Advisor

  • The Front Office

We encourage all students who are passionate about helping others and growing as leaders to apply. We can’t wait to meet our next generation of AYLA leaders!  Please see Ms. Davis or Ms. Gray for an application.

Free and Reduced Lunch Application: Beginning Tuesday 10/7, if students have not submitted an application for this year 2025-2026, they will revert back to a full pay status.

Breakfast and lunch are not universally free for all students. If you would like your child to eat meals at school, you will either need to put money on their online account or you will need to secure a free/reduced lunch status by filling out the required form. Paper forms are available in the WAMS main office or you can fill it out online. Please make sure that you have been approved for free or reduced lunch or that your child has lunch money in their account.

Infinite Campus: As you are aware, ABSS transitioned from PowerSchool to a new student information system, Infinite Campus (IC), over the summer months. This new platform will now be used to access student schedules, grades, attendance, and more. On Monday, August 4, parents/guardians will receive a message from ABSS with instructions on how to create their Infinite Campus Parent Portal account. Please be sure to check your email to get started.
