Good afternoon Western Alamance Middle School families,
We’ve made it to the final week before Spring Break! As a reminder, Spring Break will take place from Friday, April 3 through Sunday, April 12. Students will return to school on Monday, April 13.
There will be no weekly update next week, as we hope everyone takes this time to rest, recharge, and enjoy time with family and friends. Congratulations to our Battle of the Books Team, who won the county and finished 2nd in our region, both incredible accomplishments! We appreciate all you do to support our students, and we look forward to finishing the year strong when we return!
Reading Check Ins: On Monday, March 30th, we will administer the Reading NC Check In to all 6th-8th grade students.. Check-Ins are interim assessments aligned to North Carolina grade-level content standards developed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). The main purpose of NC Check-Ins is to provide students, teachers, and parents with immediate data and a reliable estimate of students’ current performance on the selected content standards. It is extremely important that your student arrives at school on time to ensure that our test administration is not interrupted.

8th grade parents--its that time of year!! Start sending in baby pictures to include in the slide show at the 8th grade formal. We have a HARD deadline May 22. Please send your baby pictures to dana_sherwood@abss.k12.nc.us. Late entries will not be accepted.
Art 8th grade: (Semester 1 & 2), is planning to take a trip to Raleigh, NC to tour the NC Museum of Art on Thurs, April 16th--9am to 3pm. The total cost is $15.00. All money has to be turned in by Thurs., April 2nd, but the window may close sooner since I can only take the first 50 students that have turned in everything (money and permission slip). You must pay for the trip using “Online Trip Payment” under “Quick Links” on the Western Middle website: http://www.abss.k12.nc.us/wam (*We are no longer accepting cash or checks. Chaperones are free.)
Students and chaperones will need to bring money for lunch at Chick-Fil-A (Basic Chicken Sandwich Combo is $8.55 plus tax).

EOG/EOC Retesting Opportunity: Beginning the 2025-2026 school year, students who score Not Proficient on an End-of-Grade (EOG) and/or End-of-Course (EOC) assessment are eligible for one retest opportunity per subject each school year. Retesting provides students an additional opportunity to demonstrate academic growth and progress. For EOC courses, the highest score earned will count as the exam grade.
In order for a student to retake an exam, parent/guardian consent is required. Please complete the Retesting Consent Form linked below to grant permission for your child to participate in retesting if needed. Families will be contacted after exam results are received if their child scores Not Proficient and is eligible for a retest opportunity.
