WAMS Weekly Update - 5/10/26

May 10th, 2026

Good afternoon Western Alamance Middle School families,

I want to take a moment to recognize and honor all the incredible mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures in our school community. Your love, support, and dedication help shape the hearts and minds of our students every single day. Wishing you a wonderful and restful Mother’s Day!  I also want to thank the PTO, Ms. Kasserman and Ms. Summers for organizing an incredible Teacher Appreciation Week.

PTO: 8th grade parents--if you would like to have your child's baby picture included in the slideshow at the formal, please email the picture with the student's name to  dana_sherwood@abss.k12.nc.us by May 22. Late entries will not be accepted. You may only send ONE picture.

You have less than two weeks to purchase your ticket. Tickets are $35 and a dinner will be provided. The formal is Thursday, June 4 at Lakeview Community Church from 5:30-8. Dinner is served from 5:45-6:15. Desserts and drinks will be provided during the entire event.

Thank you so very much for all of your help during teacher appreciation week! We love our WAMS teachers!!

From the Library: All library books are now due.  Students have received email notices if they still have library books out.  Please ask them to check their email and look for any books they owe.  Lost books may be paid for by clicking on the payments/donations box on the Western Middle Website.

Also, we will soon be collecting chromebooks and chargers.  Students must return the charger that was checked out to them at the beginning of the school year. If they no longer have that charger, they will need to pay $26 to replace it.  Chargers may be paid for on  the Western Middle Website.

Students and parents will be notified of any damage charges to chromebooks after they are collected.  If you know your student's chromebook is damaged and you would like an estimate on repair costs, please contact Mrs. Ysteboe.

Nurses Desk: All students enrolled in the NC Public School System and entering the 7th grade are required to receive the Tdap & Meningococcal Vaccines.  Please schedule your vaccine appointment with your pediatrician or the Alamance County Health Department.  Once received, be sure to send an updated immunization record to school!  If you are not sure if your child has received the required immunizations, please contact your doctor’s office or Nurse Benson.  If these are not received by the 30th day of the 2026-2027 School year, your child will be excluded from school!  If you have questions or need help with an appointment, please contact our school nurse.

If your student had medication at school this school year. This medication will need to be picked up within 2 weeks of the last day of school. If medication is not picked up within that time frame, it will be discarded. We are not able to send medications home on the bus with your student."

Bus Transportation Requests for the 2026-2027 School Year: If your student will need bus transportation for the 2026–2027 school year, you must complete a transportation request form by June 5, 2026. All current and new bus riders must complete this form.

Students are not guaranteed transportation in August if the form is not submitted by the deadline.

Please take a few minutes to complete this as soon as possible to ensure your child has transportation arranged for next school year.

Retesting provides students an additional opportunity to demonstrate academic growth and progress. For EOC courses, the highest score earned will count as the exam grade.

In order for a student to retake an exam, parent/guardian consent is required. Please complete the Retesting Consent Form linked below to grant permission for your child to participate in retesting if needed.
